Ayanda's life has been shaped by the decisions of his relatives; his father's absence to his grandmother's kindness shape him into a top student at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. However, he encounters difficult lecturers and increasing family pressures which prolong his stay in school. Will he ever overcome them and graduate?

About Illino

At Illino, we create African stories that empower, educate and entertain everyone who interacts with them. We push the bounds of language, style and cultural norms in our stories, to translate the multidimensional, multicultural and multigenerational nature of African experiences into stories in English. ‘A Slow Burning’ is the third of five monthly short story publications which we have commissioned to do exactly this. We invite you to join our journey by subscribing to our mailing list!
